The island: biggest opportunity (and biggest regret if undersized)
In Solana Beach, the island often becomes the “command center.” But islands fail when they’re designed around looks instead of function.
A high-performing island typically includes:
- seating that doesn’t block walkways
- outlets/charging (planned intentionally)
- trash pullout on the prep side
- storage for bowls, cutting boards, or small appliances
- lighting that matches the scale of the island
Pro tip: It’s better to have one generous island than two cramped work surfaces.
