Step 4: Ask the questions that reveal process (not just personality)

Great contractors have great systems. Ask:
- Who will be my main point of contact day-to-day?
- How often do you provide updates (weekly meetings, photos, schedule check-ins)?
- How do you handle decisions and selections so the project doesn’t stall?
- What’s your approach to site protection and cleanliness?
- How do you schedule inspections and coordinate trades?
- What’s your change-order process?
- What do you need from me as the homeowner to keep things moving?
If the answers feel vague, that’s a signal.
